Ricky Williams: I left the NFL due to Dolphins' bad QBs

Ricky Williams' initial decision to walk away from football just before the start of the 2004 season was the quarterbacks' fault.

In an upcoming episode of NFL Network's A Football Life, Williams said that his decision to abscond from the team and go on a mission to find himself had more to do with the poor play of A.J. Feeley and Jay Fiedler than anything else.

"I led the NFL in attempts the past two years and they really didn't go out and get a quarterback to help me, so I knew it's going to be all on me again," Williams says in the documentary, which premiers Friday. "I could see my mortality as a football player, that I'm not going to be able to do this much longer. It just became obvious to me that playing football for me is not going to be fun, not something I'm going to enjoy and it's time for me to do something different."

Jason Verrett #22 (labrum) out 2-3 weeks

The San Diego Chargers will be without their stud rookie cornerback, Jason Verrett, for at least the next couple weeks.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Verrett was diagnosed with a torn labrum and is out at least two to three weeks, according to two sources informed of his prognosis. The rookie will miss this Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, and the team will revisit the injury after their Week 10 bye.

Giants RB David Wilson Says Goodbye to the NFL

(USA TODAY Sports)

The New York Giants’ first-round pick in 2012 gracefully announced his retirement from the NFL two weeks ago after doctors advised him that he shouldn't risk further contact that could aggravate a serious neck injury suffered in a game last October.

In his farewell speech, Wilson said “I’ll set another dream and be great at that because I always look at trying to be great at whatever I do,” and now we know what that next goal is.

The Olympics.
